AURA

A bioacoustics analysis workstation covering infrasound to ultrasonic. Browser-based, so there is nothing to install and no admin rights needed. Analysis runs on your own machine — recordings are not uploaded in order to be processed.

Capabilities

Ten groups, in full.

What the application does today. Anything still being built is not listed here.

Viewing Workspace

  • Spectrogram in 2D and 3D, with power spectrum, oscillogram and zero-crossing views
  • Dual-resolution displays for fine time against fine frequency detail
  • Time-expansion and heterodyne playback, so ultrasonic calls become audible
  • Multi-window workspace that keeps its layout between sessions

Detection Analysis

  • Band-limited energy detection with adjustable threshold and hysteresis
  • Spectrogram cross-correlation against templates from your own recordings
  • Per-call measurements — peak, start and end frequency, bandwidth, duration, slope, harmonics
  • Eight per-taxon parameter sets; switch taxon and the workspace reconfigures

Audio tools Editing

  • Cascaded biquad filtering — high-pass, low-pass, band-pass, selectable order
  • Spectral noise removal by region, repeating patch or freehand lasso
  • Non-destructive split and trim; the original is never modified
  • Live recording from a connected input for reference calls

Reference libraries Species

  • Over 1,000 bird species against an 11,000-entry global checklist
  • 128 South Asian bats with frequency ranges, call shapes and IUCN status
  • Marine mammals, amphibians, primates, katydids and other insects
  • Build your own — add species, import and export whole libraries

Review and QA Confidence

  • Inter-rater reliability — Cohen's and Fleiss' Kappa, Gwet's AC1
  • Bounding-box agreement by intersection-over-union
  • Structured annotation with confidence and verification state
  • Raven selection tables in and out, so annotation moves both ways

Privacy By default

  • One-click redaction of a recording that captured human speech
  • Coordinate suppression on export for threatened species and community land
  • Anonymised export sets for sharing without re-identifying a site
  • A published privacy policy and a named data protection contact

Projects Organisation

  • Named projects holding recordings, annotations and settings together
  • Multi-user accounts with roles and per-project access
  • Cloud storage — Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox
  • Batch processing across a folder, with a per-file log

Export Output

  • Publication figures at 600 DPI with millimetre sizing
  • Tabular export to CSV, Excel and JSON for R or Python
  • Reports to PDF, audio to WAV, whole sets as a ZIP
  • Privacy settings applied at export, not bolted on after

Support In app

  • Full manual inside the application, with nothing to download
  • Searchable reference for any term, measurement or feature
  • Support tickets with threaded replies, raised from inside AURA
  • Nine interface languages, shipping today

Tiers and fees

Free for the people who cannot pay. Priced for the people who can.

Eligibility is by the nature of the work, not by job title. A professor doing unfunded personal research qualifies for Basic; a student doing paid contract work does not.

Basic

FreeNo card, no expiry

Available only to enrolled students for coursework and theses, independent researchers and naturalists working without commercial funding, and non-commercial research intended for open publication or personal study.

  • Individual work only
  • Not licensed for consultancy, contract research, impact assessment, or any work done for a fee or on behalf of a client, employer or government body
Professional

USD 99Per seat per year, billed annually

Required for all commercial and institutional use, and carries the advanced capabilities. The tier for consultancies, industry, government departments, and universities licensing on behalf of their people.

  • Institutional seats available by agreement, based on seat count
  • Seats are managed from a console — add, remove and reassign as people join and leave
CapabilityBasicProfessional

The full frequency range is on both tiers.

Analysis from infrasound through to ultrasonic is available to every user, including Basic. A student working on bat echolocation or elephant rumbles should not be locked out of the frequencies their species uses. What Professional adds is scale, collaboration and reporting — not access to the spectrum.

No charge until paid billing begins.

Professional billing is currently planned to commence in the first half of 2027. Until then there is no charge. We will give existing account holders at least 60 days’ notice by email before any charge applies, and nobody will be billed without first choosing a paid plan.

Fees exclude applicable taxes. Prices may change with 60 days’ notice; a change never applies to a term already paid for. Capabilities within each tier may change as the product develops — where a change materially reduces something you pay for, the refund policy applies. For institutional pricing, write to contact@wildsynapse.com.

This summary is for reading. The binding version is section 4 of the Terms.
